Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing that is steadily becoming more and more embraced as a in the USA and around the world. Reiki is a noninvasive healing technique that anyone can receive. One has to be open to receive Reiki energy in order for healing to take place. Reiki practitioner channels energy and seeks to restore balance to the body where energy has become unbalanced, by gently laying hands on the body or just above the body, in the auric field or energetic body.
Reiki has several effects:
deep relaxation
mental clarity
detoxification of the body
boosts the immune system
clears energy blockages
increases vitality and overall well-being
increases vibrational frequencies
What is the history of Reiki?
Reiki is believed to have begun long ago in Tibet, but the origins are somewhat nebulous. Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Christian educator, rediscovered the root system in the mid to late 1800's and passed it on to Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. Dr. Hayashi eventually opened up a clinic, trained 12 initiates and performed healing on Hawayo Takata, who was directed to him by her doctors for serious treatment for a tumor, gallstones and appendicitis. Following her profound healing experience, Hawayo became trained in Reiki by Dr. Hayashi and initiated twenty-two Reiki Masters. Hawayo and her initiates are responsible for bringing Reiki to America and around the world.
Who can benefit from Reiki?
Anyone can benefit from Reiki. There are no reasons or contraindications in receiving Reiki energy healing. Whether you are seeking relief for an emotional or physical trauma, a chronic condition such as cancer, or just want to be more balanced and whole in your body, Reiki is beneficial. Some people receive monthly treatments just to stay healthy and others receive treatment more often because they are seeking relief from some type of trauma or disease. Reiki is beneficial to all.
What does a Reiki session entail?
A Reiki session typically lasts about an hour. Once you set up an appointment and arrive, you will fill out a form with your basic contact information and then we'll sit down to discuss your personal healing issues and what you are seeking to accomplish with a Reiki session. At this point, we can go over any questions or concerns you may have. Often times I already know some of the things that are going on with you because I am an intuitive, which simply means I am open to channel and receive universal life energy. During a Reiki session I often get information regarding your personal life or your health that may be pertinent to you and can help in your healing process. If you are open to hearing such information, I am happy to share it with you. The session begins by you lying on the table and I will have my hands a few inches above your body to scan the energy body and your chakras (energy centers). I usually begin at the head and work down to the feet. Typically, what I am looking for are imbalances or energy disruptions in the body or energy field. For example, if there is a dip around the solar plexus or stomach region, I may add a little energy there, or if you have a cold, congestion in the lungs, or a feeling that things are sticky or stuck, I may clear some of that energy out. Once we find where the imbalances are in the body, I will go in and lay my hands in particular patterns on the body, from the head to the feet. I may gently caress your head or I may have my hands right above or around the head area. This depends on what feels most natural and is continued down the body. I then clear or add energy as needed. That is the great thing about Reiki, it will clear away and add energy where you specifically need it. When our session has ended, I will gently let you know that we are done and for you to take your time and come back to the lobby when you are ready. I will give you some water and then you will pay for the session. I recommend for my clients to try and relax that night and get as much rest as you can. Drink as much fluid as you can - especially water - to help with the detoxifying of the body that ensues from having the session.
How often should someone receive Reiki?
Usually 4-6 weeks is a good time frame in between sessions, although it truly depends on the person. For someone who is fairly healthy and who is quite balanced already, once a month is recommended. For someone dealing with an emotional or physical issue involving trauma or disease, once a week or a series of two or three per week can be recommended, depending on what you're dealing with.
How does Reiki differ from massage?
The main difference between Reiki and massage is the type of contact with the body. Massage uses direct physical contact and manipulation of the soft tissue of the body. A massage practitioner physically works stress and tension out of the muscles in the body, usually with the aid of creams or oils. With Reiki there is no actual physical manipulation. The only real contact is from gentle touch or laying on hands. The practitioner places their hands above the body or gently on the body and allows the energy to be balanced. Whether the hands are above the body or directly on the body, most people say they feel a warm sensation in the areas where the practitioner has their hands.
I still don't understand what Reiki is and what it does?
Reiki is Universal Life Energy. Energy is all around us and it has been proven that we are energetic beings. With Reiki, we are just directing that Universal healing energy to help with the healing process. The best way to understand or get a better understanding of what Reiki is and what it does is to experience it. Scheduling a session often answers a lot of people's questions in terms of how it feels and what it is. Once you experience a Reiki session you will notice a difference. Most people that I work with say that they notice that they go to a really deep calming place within their bodies and that they feel a strong sense of relief and relaxation. Most people find that they just have a lighter sense about themselves after a session. Which is a good thing, because often in this harried world we don't take time to just chill, relax and calm down.
How can I learn how to perform Reiki?
If you are interested in becoming a Reiki practitioner, I can help. Reiki practitioners must be attuned in order to practice and work with Reiki. There are three levels: Level I practitioner, Level II Practitioner, and Level III Practitioner/Reiki Master. Each level must be mastered before going on to the next level. I am a Level III Practitioner/Reiki Master, which means I may perform Reiki as a healing method and I may also teach and attune others to become Reiki healers. An attunement is basically fine-tuning a person to learn how to do Reiki and receive universal life energy for the betterment of themselves and others.
